Come and join the Architecture team for the Customer Relations and Support Office, helping advance the FedLine network to support the next generation of payments technology. FedLine provides critical payment and informational services to thousands of financial institutions across the United States, and our solutions are designed to be secure and resilient to support approximately $4 trillion/ day in payments transactions.


This role includes setting the strategy around how we architect, build, and maintain our infrastructure and platforms, in commercial or government cloud service providers; this includes things such as Virtual Private Clouds, Containers, Data Stores, API Gateways, and CI/CD processes. We pride ourselves on using Agile development methodologies (specifically the Scaled Agile Framework) and appreciate candidates that are adept at helping shape our process as well. This role will involve working with our Cloud Engineers and Security Architects, as well as, working with our internal infrastructure service provider, to shape the policies and implementation standards that we will be using for several years


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develops and maintains enterprise/portfolio level architectures for use across multiple business areas in compliance with applicable enterprise architectures and business roadmaps

  • Provides oversight on the architecture and design of systems comprised of multiple solutions and services across multiple lines of business

  • Leads assignments to develop target conceptual and logical architectures for products and solutions

  • Leads architecture reviews of products and systems to evaluate and ensure that the architecture being applied meets policies, principles, standards, and business/technology needs and roadmaps.

  • Reviews and aligns product choices to ensure that enterprise architecture standards, service quality and availability, and cost efficiency are met

  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technology trends and utilizes this knowledge to design innovative solutions that support and drive business objectives and technology roadmaps

  • Leads the definition and analysis of requirements for enterprise cross-product services and applies available and emerging technologies to support tactical and strategic business objectives

  • Researches and recommends changes to foundational/target architectures

  • Leads evaluation of products and technologies and their alternatives for use in proposed solutions

  • Builds, maintains and promotes a strong understanding of the enterprise's IT systems and architectures

  • Partners with stakeholders across the enterprise to evaluate and develop business cases for new products/technologies and possible implementation of  solutions

  • Influences and communicates with all levels of the FRS on business, information, and complex technical subjects and roadmaps

  • Serves as top-level organizational expert for multiple architecture disciplines (ex. Business, Information/Data, Application, Infrastructure, Network, Security)

  • Actively contributes to a culture of knowledge sharing  through informal (i.e., mentoring less experienced team members) and formal channels (i.e., presentations, communities of practice, etc.)

  • Leads or participates in FRS System level and cross business workgroups and initiatives




Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Architecture, Information Systems or other related fields or equivalent work experience
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred

  • Ten or more total years of experience in multiple Information technology disciplines

  • Five or more years of experience in solution/systems architecture


Knowledge and Skills

  • Broad knowledge of Information Technology Systems, with strong understanding of the relationship between business processes, applications, databases, operating systems, processing platforms, storage platforms, security systems and networks
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent ability to clearly explain options and alternatives, and rationale for associated recommendations

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and concisely illustrate concepts in words and diagrams

  • Demonstrated ability to abstract core elements or components of solution or business need and propose common/re-usable services

  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge in a fast-paced, business and technical environment

  • Excellent understanding of enterprise and service design patterns and best practices

  • Strong enterprise application integration (EAI) experience

  • Strong understanding of SOA and Web service concepts, design patterns and best practices

  • Strong demonstrated working knowledge of computer science concepts including algorithms, data structures, encryption and networking

  • Flexibility in designing systems - including leveraging new or emerging technologies

  • Strong knowledge of XML

  • Basic business analysis skills ¬ should be able to create technical specifications from imprecise business requirements

  • Experience with distributed version control systems

  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies and Practices

  • Experience with visual drawing tools such as Microsoft Visio or Omni Graffle

  • Preferred

  • Prior cloud experience, particularly in an enterprise setting

  • Prior experience designing fault tolerant or self-healing product or systems, highly scalable products or systems, and multi-tenant products and systems.

  • Experience with Continuous Delivery/Continuous deployment

  • Prior experience with banking/financial services/government systems
