Position Summary:

Works with assigned K-9 to maintain overall building security and protect Bank staff members and assets contained in Federal Reserve Bank facilities. As a K-9 team, responds to incidents on Bank property, provides emergency services and explosive detection capability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates as K-9 handler to provide explosives detection screening of all Federal Reserve deliveries, vehicles entering upon or adjacent to Bank property, sites of special events on Bank property, and routine patrol of grounds. Handles K-9 when responding to special requests for explosive detection based on unusual or suspicious circumstances.
  • Maintains proficiency and certification for self and K-9 in explosive detection in accordance with applicable laws and Federal Reserve policy.
  • Responsible for all maintenance, care, handling and training of assigned K-9.
  • Working as a K-9 handler, operates as a law enforcement officer pursuant to the authority given the Board of Governors by Section 11 (q) of the Federal Reserve Act. Authorized personnel act as law enforcement officers pursuant to regulations of the Board of Governors and approved by the U.S. Attorney General (Uniform Regulations for Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers).
  • Monitors/utilizes metal detectors, metal detection wands to scan visitors, personal items, and/or packages for unauthorized items. Monitors and authorizes visitors accessing Bank facilities and records visitor data on appropriate logs. Monitors surveillance equipment and other specialized equipment. Inspects vehicles entering security sensitive areas for unauthorized personnel or contents. Participate in special assignments for Law Enforcement Unit or Bank management, such as escorting VIP’s or Bank visitors working in high security areas. Make Bank ID cards, take fingerprints of new employees, issues access cards and maintain user databases.
  • Maintains proficiency in areas such as weapons (lethal and non-lethal), first aid, CPR, firefighting techniques, civil disorders, and public relations. Must exhibit spontaneous good judgment over life and safety issues (shoot and don’t shoot scenarios, discrete handling of detected weapons and/or explosive devices, when to employ use of life saving and rescue equipment, etc.).
  • Patrols building with K-9 and reports unusual situation or unauthorized individuals. Monitors departments for safety or security violations, and reports findings to shift supervisor and prepares incident reports as required. Responds to general alarms and secures building until alarm has been cancelled.
  • Maintain proficiency in use of personal computer (PC) and related software, computerized access and control systems, video surveillance equipment, x-ray and metal screening equipment, various alarms systems and Automated External Defibrillators. Maintain knowledge of current trends and technological developments in the K-9 and Law Enforcement field.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate's Degree or 2 years equivalent experience preferred

Experience:

  • Two to Five years preferred
