The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is seeking a Senior Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of its Supervisory Policy and Risk Analysis (SPRA) unit. The unit is comprised of economists and analysts that provide research, data support and current analysis to units across the Reserve Bank including the Office of the President, Supervision, the St. Louis Fed's branch offices, its research division and public affairs. The unit also provides data and analytical support to a number of Federal Reserve System initiatives. The unit publishes its work regularly in both internal and external publications, and works with senior management at the bank to help frame and communicate complex issues with a diversity of audiences.

The unit conducts regular analysis and periodic research on banking-related issues with a particular focus on community and regional banking. The unit also operates the CASSIDI tool that aids in the analysis of competitive factors in bank M&A transactions. Many of the economists and analysts in the unit speak at external events or support Federal Reserve System learning initiatives.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience managing researchers and analysts and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also have a background in banking, banking regulation and/or supervision, regulatory policy or economics, and will have experience in writing/editing policy briefs that are distributed to senior management and the general public. The manager of the unit is also engaged in providing support to those who engage outside audiences, including the general public and must be comfortable speaking in front of large, diverse audiences.

  • Coordinate and direct the data support and analytical work of eight full time staff members.
  • Oversee the unit’s role in identifying and communicating key risks to the banking system and the broader financial system
  • Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including requests for directed analysis and presentation support
  • Manage the unit’s budget and ensure staff has appropriate training to continue to remain current on key issues
  • Ensure that the unit provides timely and effective support to senior executives at the Reserve Bank
  • Ensure the quality of all written materials produced by the unit
  • Write in bank internal and external publications as appropriate
  • Identify areas for additional analysis and potential future research
  • Direct the unit in a manner that allows it to provide thought leadership on key banking / financial market issues
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, accounting or commensurate experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in banking, banking regulation, regulatory policy, accounting or economics inclusive of 5+ years’ experience successfully managing and/or influencing teams.
  • Experience managing economic/financial analysts and researchers either individually or as part of project teams, preferred
  • Must be able to communicate complex concepts in a clear and effective manner
  • Must be comfortable using a wide range of data to solve problems he/she is presented with
  • Experience working with senior executives in an organization
  • Comfort in finding solutions to questions/problems that are not always clearly defined
  • Must have experience in building formal and informal networks that can be leveraged to identify solutions
  • Must be comfortable presenting information and analysis publicly. Experience with public speaking is a plus
  • Must have experience manipulating and presenting data
  • Candidates with less experience may be considered at a lower job grade and/or salary
  • Travel (5%)
